I have NMS on both PC and PS4 and iirc I can download save files from the PS4 and onto a storage drive. Would it then be possible to transfer a PS4 save file onto my PC and play it on that copy of the game? I don't remember where saves are stored on pc tho.

Its still a bit glitchy, apparently it only works if you start the game in multiplayer mode. i know that sounds like a no brainer but it is confusing because I can start in single player mode, then go to my network settings and switch to multiplayer on and get an in-game notif that the session is available to cross play and my friends wont be able to see my session in the multiplayer menu.

No Man's Sky isn't even being released on XBox One currently. I'm pretty sure getting Sony to do cross-platform between PC and PS4 wouldn't be hard at all. I don't know off hand as I don't own a PS4, but I'm sure there's a few games that already do this. True enough, no XBL, specifically. As for PC & PS4
